It’s strawberry season in the Northwest! Here is a very easy recipe for children of all ages to make. Children feel sense of pride in doing something for themselves, and others. With a little parental supervision, your child can make this delightful dessert for the whole family.

What you will need:

3 cups strawberriesimages

1 pint Heavy Whipping Cream

Shortcake or angel food cake

For truly inspired chefs, buy a container of sprinkles

Have your child wash the strawberries and place them into a deep bowl. Mash with the bottom of a Mason jar or plastic cup or she can slice them with a butter knife.

Pour the whipping cream into a bowl. Add 2 Tbs. of sugar if you wish. Whip the cream until it has soft folds. Be sure to stop mixing for taste tests!

Tear shortcake/Angel food cake into small pieces and into individual bowls.

When ready to serve: Scoop the mashed strawberries over the cake. Add lots of the whipped cream. Add sprinkles generously.
